"WORLD CUP SOCCER"
Have you been watching any of the World Cup? There are some great matches going on and if nothing else we've become familiar with the Vuvuzela.
These horns have become so popular that you can get an application for your iPhone which recreates the sound of this less than musical instrument. -- Amazing.
International sporting events fascinate me whether it's World Cup Soccer, the Olympics, or equestrian events. Although governments may be at war with each other, athletes from these countries can come together and compete head to head. When it's all over they shake hands and go on their own way. This is where sportsmanship and character come to the forefront.

I really believe that if our news media would spend more time concentrating on the positive side of life and less time on politicians and their antics we would all be better off.
The majority of the people I've met in our industry are entrepreneurs of one fashion or another. In most cases, they are a lot like the athletes playing in South Africa. They get up each morning with the sole intent of taking care of their business, their customers and most of all, supporting their families. They're not there just to play and survive but they are there to win.
They're not into weapons of mass destruction or asking the government to support them, they just want the opportunity to do their jobs and be compensated if they do it right.

I think this is why I like working with you guys, thanks.

EPA Delays Lead-Paint Restriction
Move praised by industry because it will allow more time for contractors to receive training

Remodeling and home repair specialists fuming over a new federal lead-based paint rule have some breathing room - and more time to get trained - after the government put off enforcing it until Oct. 1.

The Environmental Protection Agency's decision to delay enforcement of the new rule "will provide much-needed time to get more remodelers and other contractors trained, and for EPA to get the word out to consumers about the importance of hiring a certified remodeler," according to the National Association of Home Builders.

Property owners and investors in Oklahoma City joined the builders association in complaining that the EPA was making it impossible for the industry to comply by not certifying instructors fast enough.

Investors organized by Jack Werner, owner of A to Z Inspections, sent a petition to the state's congressional delegation calling the EPA "the essence of bureaucracy" and insisting that the rule would shut down remodeling and repair work on homes built before 1978. The Consumer Product Safety Commission banned lead-based paint in 1977. [...]

Why dry the whole room when it was only partially flooded?

Containment is critical to reducing drying time. In a recent job at a self insured Boston-area high tech firm, a water pipe burst in an adjacent room causing minor flooding in the main conference facility.
The wall and rug were saturated in several areas and our client needed to use the room for a meeting in three days. We had to work smart and dry it out fast.
Contain just the area you need to dry, nothing more.
This was a large conference room measuring 75' by 100'. Without a containment system, it would have required much larger and more costly dehumidifiers.
That's where Puritan Flood's use of the ZipWall barrier system made them look like heroes. First, Puritan was able to gain maximum drying efficiency by sectioning-off a smaller area measuring just 25'x 25'.
This meant they needed less equipment and it improved operating efficiency. Puritan Flood was in and out in 2 days.
Create an entry door to move equipment in and out. [...]
Two Massachusetts Men Plead Guilty To Improper Asbestos Removal
Published by The Sun Chronicle on May 1, 2010

NEW BEDFORD - Two men with a Middleboro demolition company pleaded guilty Thursday in New Bedford Superior Court to improperly removing asbestos from properties in Attleboro and North Attleboro.

Arthur Amaral, of Middleboro, owner of Northeast Demolition and Removal, and Shaun Amaral, of Norton, the company's site foreman, were placed on probation for two years and fined.

Arthur Amaral must pay $1,000 and Shaun Amaral must pay $500, according to Jill Butterworth, a spokesman for state Attorney General Martha Coakley, whose office obtained a grand jury indictment last year against the pair.

A charge of failing to comply with asbestos disposal regulations was dismissed.

Authorities say the defendants directed workers to demolish parts of the old Balfour building at 21 East St. in North Attleboro, and buildings at 888-896 North Main St., in Attleboro, before asbestos had been removed. Under the terms of their probation, if the men are involved in asbestos removal operations they must notify their probation officers.

In addition, they must comply with all asbestos removal regulations, Butterworth said. [...]

Ohio Supreme Court says "Take Home" Asbestos Not Employer's Responsibility

Published June 14, 2010 by mesothelioma.net
Retreived June 29, 2010 from here.
The Ohio Supreme Court recently ruled against a prosecutor representing a Mrs. Boley who passed away due to the "take home" effects of her husband's work. Her husband, an employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, allegedly introduced dangerous asbestos fibers into their home which he was originally exposed to at his workplace.

Asbestos has been known to cause an array of serious health complications since the early 1920's. While it has taken nearly a century to cut through the smoke-screen of misinformation deployed by a profitable and booming asbestos industry, it's now well understood and accepted that asbestos fibers cause several different respiratory ailments, asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma, an aggressive and terminal cancer.

Asbestos has been completely banned throughout the European Union, is closely regulated and controlled by the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States, and is recognized by the World Health Organization as a toxic workplace hazard that causes terminal illnesses. [...]
