Lab Services
QuanTEM Laboratories provides comprehensive testing services to support environmental safety and health. Asbestos testing involves identifying and quantifying asbestos fibers in bulk building materials. QuanTEM utilizes Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) to detect asbestos fibers. Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) is used to analyze air samples for airborne fiber counts. Testing is crucial for assessing potential exposure risks, especially during renovations or demolitions.
Comprehensive lead testing is available to detect hazardous levels of lead in paints, soils, dust, and air samples. Using precise analytical techniques, we deliver accurate results to help ensure a safe environment and meet regulatory requirements for homeowners, contractors, and environmental professionals.
Environmental Microbiology testing services provide quantitative and qualitative analyses on a variety of sample types. Analyses include the identification of mold spores, pollen, debris, fibers and skin cells. Results assist environmental professionals to determine the potential health risks and the necessary remediation steps.

Service Overview
- PLM Bulk Sample Analysis
- PCM Air Sample Analysis
As implied by our name, QuanTEM’s original mission was the analysis of air samples for asbestos by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Over the years QuanTEM has become the industry leader in asbestos analysis earning praise from our customers in all fifty states and several foreign countries.
QuanTEM currently holds PLM accreditation from the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) Testing Lab Code 101959-0 for EPA — 40 CFR Appendix E to Subpart E of Part 763, Interim Method of the Determination of Asbestos in Bulk Insulation Samples EPA 600/R-93/116: Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Bulk Building Materials.
QuanTEM is IHLAP accredited through the AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC (AIHA LAP, LLC) for PCM analysis, NIOSH 7400 (Laboratory ID: LAP-101352).
Lead
Comprehensive lead testing is available to detect hazardous levels of lead in paints, soils, dust, and air samples. Using precise analytical techniques, we deliver accurate results to help ensure a safe environment and meet regulatory requirements for homeowners, contractors, and environmental professionals.

Service Overview
- Using the NIOSH 7082 method, lead in air and lead dust wipe samples are analyzed using Fast Sequential (FS) Flame Atomic Absorption (AA) Spectroscopy.
- Using the EPA 700B method, lead in bulk, lead in paint, and lead in soil samples are analyzed using FS-AA Spectroscopy.
Flame FS-AA Spectroscopy
QuanTEM Laboratories performs environmental lead testing on soil, paint, dust wipes, air and bulk samples. The analysis is performed using approved methodology, including the extraction of each sample, followed by analysis using Flame FS-AA Spectroscopy. All analysis runs are verified for precision and accuracy using approved industry required quality control measures.
Flame FS-AA Spectroscopy advantages:
- Provides fast, accurate results that meet all industry regulations and requirements
- Enables quicker analysis, ensuring timely reporting of results.
- Is a much more cost effective method than ICP-MS.
Other available services
**Subcontracted through an approved accredited laboratory**
- TCLP Pb
- TCLP RCRA 8
- Metals by ICP-MS (when ultra-trace analysis is needed)
QuanTEM is ELLAP accredited by AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC (AIHA LAP, LLC) for Environmental lead by Flame AA in Airborne Dust, Paint, Settled Dust by Wipe, and Soil (Laboratory ID: LAP- 101352).
Environmental Microbiology
In 1996 QuanTEM became one of the first labs to specialize in the analysis of mold samples. Since 2003 QuanTEM has been EMLAP accredited by AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC (AIHA LAP, LLC) for the fungal analysis of Spore Trap Cassettes, Non-Culturable Bulk samples, Non-Culturable Swab samples and Tape-Lift Samples by direct examination (Laboratory ID: LAP-101352).
